Anmore Group Threatens Legal Action Over Anmore South Proposal

The Anmore Neighbours Community Association (ANCA) has threatened legal action against the Village of Anmore over its handling of the proposed Anmore South development, a 151-acre mixed-use project by Icona Properties that could nearly triple the village’s population.

In a letter dated May 15, ANCA accuses the village of:

  • Bias: Alleging three councillors, including the mayor, prejudged the decision to amend the Official Community Plan (OCP) by endorsing the project before public hearings.

  • Charter Violations: Claiming the village suppressed political dissent and free expression by limiting public comments at council meetings and enforcing restrictive signage bylaws unfairly.

ANCA warns that unless the OCP process is paused and corrected, it will seek a B.C. Supreme Court order to overturn any decisions. It also demands that biased councillors recuse themselves and that the public hearing be delayed until residents are allowed full political expression.

The dispute highlights growing community tensions and accusations of a "developer-dominated" process. ANCA and other local groups are calling for a public referendum on the project.

ANCA Letter of Appreciation to the Community

The Anmore Neighbours Community Association (ANCA) expresses heartfelt gratitude to residents for their active involvement and support in recent community matters. ANCA acknowledges the many contributions—from attending meetings to sharing encouragement—and emphasizes how meaningful this collective engagement has been, especially amid broader global and personal challenges.

The letter encourages continued unity, not only in opposing current issues but also in collaboratively shaping a more inclusive and empowered vision for Anmore’s future.
