Anmore and Belcarra Residents Echo Concerns Over Anmore South Development

Residents from Anmore and Belcarra are joining Port Moody in voicing serious concerns about the proposed Anmore South development. As villages outside Metro Vancouver’s urban containment boundary, they stress that large-scale urban development is incompatible with their rural character and infrastructure limitations.

In a recent statement, residents thanked Port Moody for raising critical issues such as density, infrastructure, transportation, fire safety, and environmental protection. They emphasized that without adequate services—such as water, sewer, and emergency response—Anmore Council cannot reasonably proceed with rezoning efforts.

They praised Port Moody’s Official Community Plan (OCP) process, suggesting that Anmore should engage in a similar comprehensive review before considering any major development like Anmore South.

An anonymous community survey conducted by Forum Research further reinforces the opposition: with a high 25% response rate, the survey found that a vast majority of Anmore residents oppose the proposal, 13% want more information, and only 9% support it.

While Anmore Council has sent the proposal back to staff for reconsideration of building height and density, residents argue that minor adjustments fall short. A change of this scale, they insist, requires deeper public engagement, proper planning, and regional collaboration.
